![]() On the way we
drove past Jal Mahal Palace. Suzy left the
trip. In the afternoon, we saw the oldest astronomical observatory
called Jantar
Mantar which was built in 1728. The two sunken hemispheres map
out the night sky.

![]() Large
instruments calculated the positions of the planets. A large sundial told
the local time exactly. The astronomer, Jai Singh believed that
gigantic instruments would give more accurate results.
|
![]() Later
that day we went to the Kings Palace also
known as City
Palace. In the courtyard, there are two giant silver
urns. These urns were filled with water from the Ganges River and
carried to England. They are listed in the Guiness Book of World
Records as the largest silver objects in the world.

![]() After the tour, some of us were dropped in the middle of
town where we walked
around amongst the many people. We passed through the city gate on
our way to a very important mission, and that was to find the Levis
store. When we did find it we were disappointed to learn that they
did not have this years styles.

We
did find the town shoemaker and grain salesman who was using
counterweights to measure the grains. We were tired so six of us
squeezed into a little taxi scooter that was designed for two or three and
went back to the hotel. On the way, while stopped at an
intersection, a woman selling roses came up to me and touched by
face.

| The evening turned out to be quite eventful. Alex and David went to sleep and locked the door with the dead bolt. After lots of shouting through the keyhole, pounding on the door and ringing the telephone, the door was forced open. We came into the room and the boys did not turn over, move a muscle, nothing. One crisis over. Benjamin was ill with fever and the usual stomach ailment and so a doctor was called to come to the hotel. He gave Benjamin medicine and diagnosed him with the typical ailment a tourist gets in India, "Delhi Belly." |
